How is age calculated exactly?
In completed years, months and days from the date of birth. Someone born on 15 March 2000 turns 26 on 15 March 2026, not at any point before it.
Why does this matter for tax?
Senior citizen status begins at 60 and very senior at 80, both assessed on age at any point during the financial year. Crossing 60 mid-year gives you the higher exemption for that whole year.
